Before Second Zero is an experimental trio featuring guitarist Christian Russano, double bassist Marco Bellafiore and drummer Francesca Remigi. Together, the three musicians create a repertoire of original compositions exploring new and contemporary sounds, searching for imaginative and unexplored sonic landscapes.
Before Second Zero aims to tell the story of an atom that, from the “second before zero” — the instant preceding the Big Bang — wanders through the infinite universe in search of its path, its counterparts, relationships and unexpected events. The project draws on both musical and literary research, taking inspiration from the writings of Carlo Rovelli and many other science communicators from around the world.
Before Second Zero seeks to move beyond an anthropocentric perspective and explore micro- and macroscopic events, both visible and invisible to the human eye. Since its formation in 2023, the project has aimed to create new sonic landscapes, characterised by a strong improvisational component that extends beyond conventional instruments through the use of new technologies, drawing inspiration from the countless scientific phenomena that surround us.
A fundamental sense of mutual trust allows the three artists to dissolve into an idiosyncratic collective vision, in which improvisation becomes a lens for a profound inner exploration of the individual and collective roles within a creative community. The artistic result brings together and embodies a variety of musical aesthetics.
